ASUS Orientation Committee Chairs (4)

The Orientation Committee Chairs are key leadership roles responsible for ensuring the successful planning, organization, and execution of various academic, socio-cultural, and community engagement events. Each chair is tasked with specific responsibilities within their portfolio, requiring them to work closely with committees, manage logistics, and supervise event-related tasks. All chairs must hold regular office hours and dedicate full-time work during the critical weeks leading up to Orientation Week.

The 2024-2025 ASUS Orientation Committee Chair team will consist of: The ASUS Orientation Head Gael & the four (4) Orientation Committee Chairs. The Chair team alongside Head Gael is responsible for overseeing the five orientation subcommittees and is directly accountable to the ASUS Executive and ASUS Assembly.

The Orientation Chairs shall present to the ASUS Executive the scheduling and programming of the academic, cultural, fundraising, and social activities associated with the 2024-2025 Orientation programming. These recommendations will be made in a formal presentation no later than the fourth week in February 2025 to ASUS Assembly.

The Orientation Chairs shall also arrange and carry out the Orientation program for the incoming Arts and Science Class of 2029 and report to ASUS Assembly and to the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Expected Time Commitment and Remuneration

  • Orientation Chairs will each respectively be paid $165.00 for the Fall Term, $703.00 for the Winter Term, and $495.00 for the Summer Term (May to July) (subject to change with provincial minimum wage increase).
  • Orientation Chairs will each be paid up to 30 hours per week at a rate of $18.95 per hour for the Summer In-Office Term (July 28th to September 7th).

Eligible candidates must be in good academic standing in the Faculty of Arts and Science, and be entering at least their third academic year in the September of Orientation Week they would oversee.

Roles and Responsibilities
Academics and Campus Support (ACS) Chair (1)

  • Act as a liaison between the Faculty Office and the Academic Orientation Committee.
  • Plan and execute academic events throughout Orientation Week.
    • This includes events like "Queen's in the Park," "ArtSci 101," "Welcome Forum," and more.
  • Attend all Academic Orientation Committee meetings to ensure collaboration.

Community Awareness, Respect and Engagement (C.A.R.E) Chair (1)

  • Organize and supervise the Orientation Week Sidewalk Sale.
    • This includes contacting vendors, organizing the layout of vendors for event day, and ensuring all logistics are covered for a smooth operation of one of Queen's University's most recognizable Orientation events.
    • In addition, the C.A.R.E chair will oversee the logistics of key events like "Robinson's Farm," "Daffodil Day," and more.
  • Coordinate fundraising initiatives for the ASUS Orientation Fundraising Project.
  • Develop community outreach events in collaboration with the greater Kingston community.

Operations Chair (1)

  • Manage all logistical elements for Orientation Week, including room bookings, transportation, and communications.
  • Oversee purchases and ensure smooth operational flow.
  • Maintain clear communication with committee members regarding logistics.

Socio-Cultural Chair (1)

  • Organize socio-cultural events that promote interaction between students, Queen’s University, and the Kingston community.
  • Ensure a diverse range of events that cater to the interests and backgrounds of incoming students.
    • Key events that the Socio-Cultural Chair oversees include events like "Semi-Formal," "Frolymps," "Robinson's Farm," and more.
  • Provide detailed event reports to the Orientation Committee.
