Research and Recommendation Committee Members (positions below)

The Research and Recommendation committee hopes to obtain data and student opinion regarding issues of social justice, diversity, and equity in order to understand how the Society and University can better support students. To accomplish our goals, our team will conduct interviews and surveys, analyze the data, and publish a report to present our findings. By advocating for the student body, we hope to both raise awareness and educate the Kingston community on issues that especially affect students of marginalized identities. Ultimately, we hope to inspire policy change and promote inclusive environments across the Queen’s campus.

Applications will close on September 24th at 4PM.

Time Commitment

8 month-term from September 2024 to April 30th, 2025 with a time commitment of 3-5 hours/week.

Role and Responsibilities:

Logistics Directors (2)

  • Collaborate with other executive and general members to brainstorm and organize committee events
  • Responsible to work with the outreach team and maintain club relationship with even booking and more
  • Communicate with other committees and clubs at Queen’s University, for events/fundraisers

Sponsorship Directors (2)

  • Develop and maintain the club’s budget and monitor financing
  • Make sure that all of the costs of events is aligned with club’s budgeting goals
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through applying for available grants

Vice-President of Operations

  • Maintain an organized documentation of committee plans, through developing agendas, taking meeting notes, and event calendars
  • Collaborate with executive and general members to ensure all events/fundraisers/surveys are easily accessible
  • Provide support to executive and general members in their roles and responsibilities, to foster an inclusive club environment
  • Work closely with Committee Co-Directors to develop a strategic plan for the club, that aligns with the values and mission of Research and Recommendations

Data Analysts (2)

  • Design and create Google forms and surveys based on research topics and plans developed by the committee.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data from various sources, including speaker series and other events.
  • Present data findings to the committee, making complex data understandable for diverse audiences and contributing to the final findings report.
  • Based on data analysis, draw conclusions and recommend next steps for the committee's initiatives.
  • Collaborate in brainstorming, production, and finalization of the research project.
  • Attend weekly meetings with co-chairs and the executive team to discuss progress and insights.

Outreach Coordinators (2)

  • Promote committee initiatives and research through email campaigns, in-person class visits, and faculty newsletters.
  • Serve as a liaison between the committee, the Equity Commission, and the broader Queen’s and Kingston communities.
  • Facilitate active communication between students, staff, and community members to ensure engagement and collaboration.
  • Assist with the brainstorming, production, and finalization of the research project, as well as promoting events and research findings to the student body.
  • Attend weekly meetings with co-chairs and the executive team to coordinate outreach efforts.

First Year Interns (5)

  • The First-Year Intern will support the executive team by assisting with the club’s day-to-day operations, budget monitoring, data collection, event promotion, and outreach efforts.
