Honorarium Position

Overview

The Director of Workforce & Professional Development (DWPD) supports students and volunteers by providing career resources, professional training, and job opportunities. This role combines workforce development and professional growth initiatives, ensuring streamlined support under the Human Resources portfolio. The DWPD oversees career events, onboarding, and networking efforts while maintaining job postings and skill-training resources. This position requires strong organizational skills, collaboration with industry partners, and the ability to enhance professional development opportunities for ASUS members.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

Term: May 1st, 2025 – April 30th, 2026

Hours: 6-8 hours per week

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support students and volunteers by holding weekly office hours to assist with job postings and career inquiries.
  • Facilitate onboarding and workforce reviews in collaboration with the Human Resources Officer.
  • Plan and execute professional development events, such as Life After ArtSci conferences and networking sessions.
  • Develop career resources, including one-pagers on interview strategies, government jobs, and industry insights.
  • Maintain the ASUS’ HRO professional development social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) using Canva.
  • Coordinate employer engagement efforts, including recruitment events and alumni networking opportunities.

Honorarium Position

The Director of Workforce Development (DWD) is directly accountable to the Human Resources Officer (HRO) and shall assist the HRO in fulfilling the breadth of the office’s mandate. The Director’s primary role will in researching, developing and implementing strategies to improve societal operations as it relates to employees and volunteers.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

12-month term from May 1, 2024 to April 30th, 2025 with a time commitment of 5 hours/week

An honorarium of $500 will be awarded upon successful completion of the role

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Holding five (5) office hours per week.
  • Facilitating, in collaboration with the Human Resources Officer, the onboarding process for new staff and volunteers;
  • Facilitating the delivery of strategies (ie. EL WrapAround) to aid students in identifying skills developed in their ASUS roles;
  • Reviewing Breezy position postings and consulting with the Equity Commission to ensure position descriptions are equitable and accessible;
  • Developing and utilizing the results of a brand perception survey to devise strategies to improve the appeal of ASUS as a workplace in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications Office;
  • Collaborating with the Professional Development Director and sibling societies to facilitate skill training workshops to aid current ASUS employees and volunteers in articulating the skills they develop in their roles at ASUS;
